O God, Beyond All Praising (Thaxted) (Bb) (Tenor Saxophone Quintet)

Tenor Saxophone Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst …

Tenor Saxophone Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by Regis Bookshar. 20th Century, General Worship, Repertoire, Wedding, Funeral. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by Regis Bookshar
O God, Beyond All Praising (Thaxted) (Bb) (Tenor Saxophone Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of "O God, Beyond All Praising", a hymn tune based on the "Andante Maestoso" section from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of "Jupiter" (Andante Maestoso from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions.
The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked "Andante Maestoso", perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem "I Vow to Thee, My Country" by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named "Thaxted", named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn "I Vow to The, My Country", other settings of this hymn tune also include "O God, Beyond All Praising", by Michael Perry in 1982 and "We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God", a paraphrase of the "Te Deum Laudemus" by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.
Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Tenor Saxophone Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of "O God, Beyond All Praising" based on the "Andante Maestoso" section from "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's The Planets, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven for Saxophone Quartet
Saxophone Quartet: 4 saxophones
Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1138459 Co…
(+)
Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1138459 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. 15 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #738796. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1138459). This arrangement adapted for sax quartet was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Ali Ben Sou Alle: Souvenirs d'Angleterre for soprano saxophone and piano

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533492 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3000185. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533492). Souvenirs d’Angleterre is composed of an opening aria with a number of cadenzas followed by a Valse brillante with variations. Stylistically, the work seems to be more influenced by German Classical music (note especially the classical piano figurations in the opening aria, reminiscent of such composers as Beethoven and Weber). The Valse has an expressive variation in a minor key and the entire work ends, elegantly, pianissimo. One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series inLondon. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octavemechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and begantouring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the«turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, throughChina and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It wasduring this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). Hesubsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyageswere subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection knownas The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution.Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, heperformed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire ImperialFamily. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.

Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2348229. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533350). After 1865, nothing more is known about him.Souvenirs de l'Inde (Souvenirs of India) starts with an expressive andante. A folksong from the region of Malabar is presented in an evocation of drums, bells and pipes and is then varied. The final polonaise is in rondo form and ends with a brilliant coda.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1386180 By Hugh Levey. By Hugh Levey. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Blues,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Jazz. 15 pages. Woodwindly.com #970131. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1386180). Parts included for SATB or AATB SaxophonesFugue in Blue started out as a Clarinet Trio called Jazz Fughetta, indicating that it was a simple fugue in a jazz style, but without the formality of a fully worked out fugue. In this Saxophone Quartet version, the first three voices enter fugally with the second beginning on the dominant and the third back in the tonic. After a contrapuntal interlude based on the opening rhythms, the fourth voice enters on the sub-dominant.The original work was a student composition exercise, combining a conventional classical form (fugue) with a syncopated jazz style. Many years later it has been reworked in swing style with a more laid back feel and some more inventive harmony and jazz articulation, so ideally suited to sax quartet. The work is well suited to recital programmes, as a light-hearted opener or relaxed interlude in a more serious concert. It is also suited to younger players who wish to combine the discipline of ‘classical’ chamber music while learning about jazz articulation, such as falls and short notes at the ends of phrases.

Soprano Saxophone Duet Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.760534 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Raymond Fenech. Christmas,Easter,Holiday,Instructional,Romantic Period. Score. 11 pages. Raymond Fenech #4621897. Published by Raymond Fenech (A0.760534). Waltz in A minor, often designated as No. 19, is a waltz for solo piano composed by Frédéric Chopin. The waltz was written sometime between 1843 and 1848, but was not published until 1860, after the composer's death. The piece shows great sadness, while enclosing some episodes that hint at happiness and hope. The first theme of the piece uses a simple but effective melody, conveying a sad portrait, with decorative ornaments used throughout. The second theme is more interesting and lively, although it still has a certain sadness. About halfway through the piece, there is a modulation into A major, featuring a happy and joyful melody. The piece concludes with the main theme, followed by a short coda. The Level is Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate and the duration is approximately 2.01 minutes. It could be played in any type of recital/concert.
